    向茂盛,男,1988年出生,重庆黔江人,中共党员,中国科学院国家天文台研究员,国家高层次引进人才计划青年项目入选者。2015年获得北京大学博士学位。2015年至2018年在中国科学院国家天文台从事博士后研究,2018年至2022年在德国马普天文研究所从事博士后研究。于2022年通过人才引进计划入职中科院国家天文台工作至今,2022年获国家自然科学基金优秀青年基金(海外)项目资助,同年晋升为研究员。主要从事大规模巡天数据分析及恒星物理、银河系结构与演化等近场宇宙学方面的研究。研究成果发表于国际知名期刊,包括《自然》,《天文与天体物理研究》,《天体物理杂志》,《皇家天文学会月刊》,《天文与天体物理》等,截至2023年1月,总计90余篇,被引用3000余次,H-index 28。先后承担国家自然科学基金项目2项、国家重点研发计划青年项目1项,参与国家自然科学基金重点项目,联合基金重点项目各1项。
