报告摘要/Abstract  
Hydrogen Lyman-alpha radiation, produced by multiple mechanisms in various astrophysical environments, is an important probe of many aspects of the universe. After a brief introduction to Lyman-alpha radiation, three cases of using Lyman-alpha to study the universe will be discussed. First, I will summarize the efforts of using SDSS spectra to probe the large-scale diffuse Lyman-alpha emission through intensity mapping, followed by an update on the latest measurements and model interpretation. Then I will present constraints on the temperature-density relation of the intergalactic medium from analyzing Lyman-alpha absorptions in high-resolution quasar spectra. Finally, I will show the use of SDSS eBOSS quasar spectra to study metal lines associated with Lyman-alpha absorbers.
   
报告人介绍/Bio:  
Zheng Zheng obtained his BS from Peking University, his MS from Beijing Astronomical Observatory (now NAOC), and his PhD from the Ohio State University. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (as a Hubble Fellow and John Bahcall Fellow / long-term member) and at the Yale Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (as a YCAA Prize Fellow). Currently he is Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Utah. Zheng Zheng has broad research interests in astrophysics, with a focus on large-scale structure and galaxy clustering, galaxy formation and evolution, and cosmology.
